Weekly I/O #108: Venue in Product Design, Three Factors in Entertainment Experience, New Eyes not Lands, Give Reason to Listen, Intensity is Price of Excellence
I love the analogy of a candle to illustrate the importance of context in design!
Putting my notes here: the same candle can be perceived as "a piece of art" in a gallery or "a piece of garbage" in a garage. So you could either design the candle and spend a lot of time like telling about the candle or just design the room and that it sits in.
I got a PS5 Remote Play controller and it's quite annoying that the headset for PS5 can't connect easily to it (it's only for PS5) and it reminds me of this idea of designing for where ppl play games and not just the game / hardware design itself
Yeah what the user sees and what the designer can see are different. Engineers also spend a lot of time making their code looks beautiful without taking care of what the users actually interact with 🥲
1 also reminds me of Virgil Abloh's interview where he talks about the space / environment all around changes the product's value and perception

I'm actually interested in your journey of reading War and Peace. 🙃 Good luck and have fun 🎈
Haha thank you. I'm 9% in, will report back 🫡
